This room was designed to store craft and gift wrapping supplies. The cabinets below and the cabinets above were not being used in an organized fashion and therefore space was wasted and the homeowner didn't use the room.
Together we sorted, grouped & organized everything in the room. In doing this we liberated all of the space behind the glass doors leaving her with a safe place display in progress and finshed work as well as inspiring objects.
YIKES! Stuff had accumulated over time and was taking over the Master Bedroom.
This was a case of search and destroy! A lot of the stuff in this room had a home elsewhere and once that stuff was removed it was more of a re-arranging project.
This client has a lot of clothes and not enough closet space, however, what closet space she did have was not being utilized in an organized way and so there was a lot of wasted space.
As you can see the middle of the closet is tricky to get to but by moving the two hanging shelves to one side it allows for the every day stuff to be easily accessible and allows for the space below to be used for shoes.
The upper shelf was very hard to keep tidy and organized so we had to come up with a better solution.
By shifting some things around I was able to liberate some space on the floor and provide oom for longer items. The top shelf is a good place to put out of season clothes since you won't need to reach them everyday.
This family had far more non-perishable items than their kitchen could handle. This space in the basement was ideal but needed some major sorting and organizing.
This was a great project. It took a long time to pull everything out and sort, group and then develop a strategy to put everything back in a way that would be easy to get to. I achieved this and the homeowners were very happy and shocked to see the result!
This is an area off of the kitchen that had been used as a play area when the children were younger but as they got older this space was not being well utilized. I suggested that since it was off the kitchen perhaps it could serve as a computer area and/or homework area for their two children.
What's behind door #1?
One of my favorite things to do is to use a closet (or bank of closets) as a desk. It is a great way to house all the "stuff" and it is easy to hide when you don't want to see the stuff! Now this area was perfect for studying/computer work and for reading/chatting if you add a sofa and some chairs
This is a really cool kitchen in a new condo in Adams Morgan. A galley at best - it couldn't take the disorganization. A kitchen like this really demands that everything has a place and that everything is in its place. Otherwise you distract from the coolness of the condo.
Much of what I did here was to find other places to store things. There was a lot of stuff in the kitchen that didn't need to be there and many of the cabinets had un-used space in them. By storing rarely used items above the fridge I was able liberate more cabinet space for daily used items.
Oh boy. This doesn't need much explanation. This took a few hours to sort, group and organize.
The homeowners wanted to use this space as a TV/hang out area for their children who were getting older. All of the stuff here needed to be sorted, grouped, purged and then organized in a way that gave the kids a TV area, craft area, and a place to store games etc .
This is a picture of the playroom once everything had been pulled out and thrown in the middle. My job was to sort, purge and organized the toys.
Here is the room as a whole. The next two pictures show the power of an organized closet!
This is the toy closet before. The basket had been purchased but the children were just tossing the toys in the closet.
Here is another view before.
...and after I re-arranged the furniture. The armoir against the wall is now a good place to store stuff and still be able to close the door and not see it! Suitcases were relocated to the eaves on either side of the room that were virtually empty.
The closet after.
This is a project in progress. It gets very hot in the attic during the day so this project has to be done early in the morning or later at night during the summer months.

This was fun. This was more of a decorating project with a little organizing thrown in. This bookshelf is part of the home office which was the bigger project.
I sorted and grouped and displayed items and books in a more attractive and cohesive manner. Also it was my goal to get stuff off the floor. This bookshelf was home to office supplies that needed to be relocated.
A fantastic closet had been built in this homes renovation. The owner wanted this to be command central for her family.
We talked about what she could put in there cabinet to keep track of school papers, phone numbers etc.
This was the beginning of the command central project.
This was after the command central project was complete.
This storage cubby was the "black hole" of this house. Stuff went in and was never seen again.
By sorting, grouping, purging and containerizing the items here we accomplished an organized storage space where things can be easily found and returned.
This home office had been used as a TV room while the homeowners were doing an addition. After the additon was complete this was to become the home office.
Overall office after I was thru with it.
The closet was able to hold a lot of stuff whereby getting it off the floor and the bookshelf.
The items in the closet are labled and easy to get to. Using the inside of the doors for calendars, papers and reminders keeps that kind of stuff off the desk.
This homeowner has 3 young boys and this room had to serve as a catch-all space for the family. Again, by sorting, grouping we were able to organized things and find them a place of their own.
You can't see the antique hutch that is in this room but we were able to use that for a lot of storage where it had not been used before.
This home office is large and has an area for sitting and a wood-burning fireplace. It is a great space!
Sitting area after.
